Banks and post offices

Business hours differ between banks. Most banks are open from Tuesday to Friday between 09.00 and 17.00. On Monday business hours start mainly at 13.00 pm. On Saturday and Sunday banks are closed. Exchange offices (called GWK) are open seven days a week and ATM’s are easy to find. Regular post offices are open from Monday to Friday, between 09.00 and 17.00. Bigger ones are also open on Saturday between 09.00 and 12.00/12:30.

 

Climate

The average temperature in Amsterdam in December ranges from evening lows of 0º - 5º Celsius to daytime highs of 5º - 10º Celsius. At this time of the year regular showers are quite normal. Participants are therefore advised to bring a rain coat or umbrella.

 

Currency/Credit Cards

The official currency in The Netherlands is the Euro.

Major credit cards are accepted in hotels, restaurants and shops. Although not obligatory, it is advisable to carry an identity card.

Dress code

Dress will be informal throughout the conference.

 

Electricity

The voltage in the Netherlands is 220 volts. Round European style two-pin plugs are used. Appliances designed to operate on 110/120V need a voltage converter and a plug adapter for two-prong, round-prong plugs with side grounding contacts.

 

Insurance

Delegates are advised to arrange adequate insurance. The conference does not cover individuals against cancellation of bookings or theft or damage to personal belongings.

 

Language

The official language of the conference is English. No translation facilities will be provided.

 

Local time

During the conference, Amsterdam will be two hours ahead of Greenwich Mean Time.

 

Meals

Lunches as well as coffee and tea breaks will be provided for all registered delegates of the conference as part of their registration fee.

 

Parking

Parking space is expensive and can be difficult to find in the centre of Amsterdam.

A very limited number of parking spaces is available at The Grand. Congress delegates arriving by car are advised to park in a public parking place (the nearest parking garage is on St. Jansstraat, close to the Oudezijds Voorburgwal).

 

Smoking Policy

This is a non-smoking event.

 

Travelling to Amsterdam

Schiphol International Airport has a direct train connection with the city of Amsterdam.

Travelling time is approximately 15 minutes and trains run day and night regularly. Amsterdam is connected by a network of modern highways to all major city’s and can easily be reached by car. Click here for more travel information.
